Composting at Good Shepherd is Here.....and it's Simple!

Any and all food scraps can now be composted. Place them in the small bin located in the kitchen marked "compost," or place a compostable bag in a large pot to collect food scraps from community meals. When the bag is full, place it in the large, gray trash can outside in the alley marked "compost." Replace the bag in the small container. Bags for composting are out in the kitchen near the sinks.

All the items below can be composted; just place any boxes, newspapers, food packaging directly into the gray bin outside:

- Food scraps, including meat, bread, vegetables, table scraps, dairy, coffee grounds and pasta

- Unsoiled or food-soiled paper products, such as paper towels, paper bags, pizza boxes, napkins, paper cups, newspaper and food packaging Read more »

Sorrow and Loss

SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 8:00 and 10:30 am

Good Shepherd, its members and friends have suffered many deaths recently.  We have experienced losses of other kinds as well: losing parents to dementia, losing our own health, jobs, or confidence.

On Sunday March 22, we come together as a community during worship to support one another as we mourn our losses and look forward to hope and light.  We will share a meal together after the second service, at approximately 11:30 am.

Please join us.  We encourage you to invite others who are mourning their own losses so we can uphold one another.

Meal Shepherds

Imagine that you are recovering from surgery or dealing with a sick loved one. Now imagine that a friend shows up with a basket filled with a warm dinner for your family. That is what the Meal Shepherds do. From time to time there are several families that need meals, but each Meal Shepherd is responsible for one or a few meals. Call the church office if you would like to be on the list of people who make meals.

Movie Night

What can be better than dinner and a movie? How about joining friends for a potluck meal and sharing your thoughts afterwards. No reservations are needed, just bring some food to share - home made or store bought are both great. The idea is to have an easy night of entertainment.  Some people even bring a camp chair to watch the movie more comfortably.

On October 21st, we'll meet at 5:30pm for a potluck meal and then watch the new Rick Steves' travel video on Germany.  Steves took the same trip with the same tour guide as our recent Good Shepherd trip, however, he had a professional crew to remember all the details and dig deep into the history.

Generosity Gatherings -- What We Learned

In the past few weeks, the Stewardship Committee hosted several gatherings to explore the topic of generosity. We learned many things about how generosity grows in us and what effect it has on the giver.

Some of us are taught from an early age by our parents to be generous and to give at church and Sunday school. Others of us didn’t experience that guidance, but learned about generosity through lessons at church or by seeing others who practiced generosity. Read more »
