Prayer Vigil for Detained Lutheran Pastor

Pastor Betty Rendon, who serves at Emaus Lutheran Church in Racine, was detained by ICE on Tuesday, May 14 and remains in custody. Her daughter, who has DACA status, was also detained and later released. Bishop Paul Erickson of the Greater Milwaukee Synod said Rendon was a “candidate approved for ordination” but could not be ordained until she had legal status in the United States. A doctoral student at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, “She was caught in this in-between time,” Erickson said. “She’s a good preacher and she was filling in as kind of an independent contractor … but she was helping out, preaching some Sundays at Emaus in Racine.” Rendon has been trying to receive asylum for several years and was recently rejected. VBS 2019 Registration is Now Open! You can find the online registration site here.

This year's VBS is being held at United Lutheran Church, 409 Greenfield St in Oak Park while our building is under renovation. VBS is open to children that are age 3 (by June 17) through outgoing 5th graders. Cost for one student is $50, with discounts for multiple registrations per family.

Celebrate Pentecost with Red Geraniums

Help "Paint the Sanctuary Red" on Pentecost with a garden of geraniums. Order in person at church or online here. Pentecost is on June 9th and plants must be ordered by May 31st.  After service on Pentecost, plants you order may be taken home to be enjoyed in your own garden.  

Temporary Quarters

The Randolph Street building is now renovation work site. We have moved operations temporarily to the First Baptist Church, 820 Ontario Street, Oak Park. Entrances are directly across from Scoville Park. The sanctuary is on the second floor. Parking is found on the surrounding streets or the Parking Garage on North Blvd, east of Oak Park Ave. Education Hour at 9am and Worship at 10:30 am.
