As members of United Power, there is an opportunity to participate in an Action Day to continue the important work of Reclaiming
Chicago. The work endorses, elects, and holds accountable people who put the needs of people and health of the planet above corporate profits, and organizes grassroots support in between election cycles for strategic campaigns against income, racial, and gender inequality.
This is an opportunity for Good Shepherd older youth to get involved with their parents. We will all be handwriting letters which will also be hand-delivered to Senator Hermon, thanking him for his past support and reminding him that even though the climate is tight, this work must continue. All healing starts with a roof over one's head. To have shelter, the homes must be affordable. Which benefits the city on many fronts; reduces cases of homelessness and cuts down on crime as empty lots get filled by rebuilding affordable homes and apartments, and encourages business owners to invest in new communities which improves schools. That is why we need him to continue to support this work. And that is also why we need to join others in this fight.
Anybody in the congregation interested in attending the Action, which includes older youth with permission from parents, please sign up on the Prayers and More form. We would like to see a combined effort from both older youth from Good Shepherd church and the mentors from Kidz Express participate in this Action. Training future leaders for grassroots organizing starts early.
