Faith Formation

Sunday School

Sunday School takes place from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Classrooms (ages 2-3, PreK-2nd, and 3rd-5th) are in the Fellowship Hall. Children will experience age-appropriate teaching and energetic activities that will help them connect with God.

Middle School students (6th - 8th graders) meet on the first three Sunday mornings of the month in our youth lounge on the 2nd floor. Our curriculum encourages questions about our faith, rather than supplying rote answers. On the fourth week of the month, we meet on a weeknight for a fun or service activity.

Splash

Faith formation can start before Sunday School! As a congregation, when a child is baptized we make a promise to support the baptized and their families in their spiritual journey. The Splash mailings are resources offered by our congregation and Augsburg Fortress to help parents in their role of bringing up children of God. Mailings are sent out monthly and offer ideas for faith-filled play, worship, meals and prayer together. More than 30 families have received Splash mailings since our program began. If you have a child under the age of 3 and are not receiving Splash mailings and would like to, please let the church office know. We would be happy to add you to our mailing list.

Confirmation

Faith formation is an ongoing and creative process, and this is reflected in our Confirmation program for 6th through 8th graders. Students explore faith topics that matter to them, learn basics of the Lutheran faith, and build community through fun events and service learning.

High School

Our vision for high school ministry is to create safe space for students to connect to trusted adults, fellow students, and God. Opportunities for connection happen through special activities and in the times when our congregation gathers as a faith community. This year, we are looking forward to a summer service trip!

For Adults

Learning opportunities for adults include our regular Sunday Morning Bible Study, which meets from 9:15-10:15 a.m. in one of our Fellowship Hall classroom spaces. The group reflects on scripture using a variety of resources. No expertise necessary! This group values open discussion and has a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Join us also on the first Sunday of the month for our Adult & Teen Forum. Speakers share about interesting and diverse topics. Check out our newsletter for a list of upcoming speakers.

In addition to opportunities on Sunday mornings, we offer a variety of book studies, retreats, groups, and classes. Check the home page and calendar for upcoming opportunities!

Intergenerational Learning

Being a diverse congregation is one of our best assets. This diversity includes a wide range of ages and life stages. When our generations come together, we learn from one another, whether in worship, fellowship, intentional gatherings, or casual conversation. This is grassroots faith formation, and we treasure it!

Learning Together

We believe that faith development is a life-long endeavor that doesn’t end when we reach a certain age or milestone.

In addition to our age-specific classes, Good Shepherd is committed to relational learning through intergenerational activities and hands-on justice work that serves our community and the greater world.
